The Martingale System in its purest form is quite simple. You simply double the size of your bets following a loss. The advantage is that, the increased win covers all previous losses plus one. So, even winning a relatively small percentage of the time, you can still come out ahead of the casino. The disadvantage is that, you can lose your entire bankroll if you hit a cold streak. So while the martingale is good at most normal result distributions and even most “unlucky” ones, if you do happen to hit 8 or 10 losses in a row you can face a large loss.
To improve their chances with The Martingale System, veteran roulette players have developed a variety of modified Martingale Systems. These systems aim to avoid the problem of the max bet cap and also allow for more personalized tailoring of the martingale to suit each gamblers own personal style.
The more famous of the modified martingales is the Grand Martingale. This is in face more aggressive than your standard Martingale System. In the Grand Martingale, instead of just doubling your bet size after a loss, you double plus one unit. This increases your profit. It makes sense, in so much as, that you will have higher potential profit as you increase your betting size. The Grand Martingale is particularly popular and successful in conjunction with a Hit and Run gambling strategy. Because you will be accumulating profits faster, you will hit your targets much quicker.
The Dynamic Martingale is a more interesting variation of the traditional Martingale System. It aims to get around the max bet cap by splitting your next bets across different bets. This has the advantage of increasing the total maximum you can bet and also reducing the overall risk through diversifying your bets. So if you were playing a martingale on red to win but lost a $20 bet, then your next bet should be $40 on red. In the Dynamic Martingale, you would consider splitting your $40 bet into a $20 on red and $20 on Odd. In effect, you are still playing the traditional martingale but you have diversified across bets. This reduces the volatility traditionally associated with The Martingale System.
The varieties of Martingale adaptations is really endless. The true point is that, the Martingale System is there to help you have more fun during your gambling sessions and also give you some more winning sessions. But there is no point in winning a few more sessions if you find the traditional Martingale System stressful. You should feel confident enough to tweak it until you find a martingale style that suits your own gambling style. Once you are comfortable, you will have more gambling and you’ll even win more.
